Directions to Randall’s and Wards Islands
BY CAR
From Manhattan East Side: Take FDR Drive North to
Triborough Bridge exit (on left). Stay to left through and beyond toll booth, follow
exit sign to Randall’s Island. After the road curves to the right, turn left and go
forward across main road into field area. Turn left when road comes to a “T.”
Field #16 is ahead on the left; go past #16 and left for Field #11, Field #8, Field #3 and
Field #1 (field numbers shown on the map inside black diamonds and/or white circles).
From Manhattan West Side: Take West Side Highway (or 10th Ave./Amsterdam Ave.)
north to 96th Street. Turn right onto 96th, go across to East Side; continue to FDR
Drive entrance. Take FDR Drive North to Triborough Bridge exit (on left). Follow
remaining directions above.
From the Bronx: Take the Major Degan or Bruckner Expressway to the Triborough
Bridge exit (on right). Stay right after toll booth, follow signs to Randall’s
Island.
For Wards Island: Follow the directions above to Randall’s Island. When
the entry road curves to the right (past the statue), instead of turning left from the
main road (toward Field #16), continue in the same direction (south) past the parking lot
on the left. Continue until you see a sign for Wards Island (the roadway is newly
paved). A little bit farther on, you will see a large orange sign on your right and a
sign for Wards Island Park on your left, pointing to a left turn. Make the turn
and follow that secondary road around to the right, past a soccer field and a picnic
area on the left. Make the next right turn; you will see the fields directly ahead.
Take the next right onto the road that goes around the fields, and continue to the
opposite side to Fields #2, #3, #4 or #5 (indicated by the black diamonds at the lower
edge of the map, near the elevated main road).
Note: Pay toll heading toward the island; no toll when leaving.
BY SUBWAY/BUS
Take uptown 4, 5 or 6 (Lexington Ave.) train to
125th Street. Walking in the same direction as the train was moving, exit on stairway
toward the front, left of station (northwest corner of 125th and Lexington Ave.). Take
the M35 bus (originates on corner, headed south). Get off at first stop after
Triborough Bridge toll booth. Field #16 is ahead to the left, beyond the train trestle;
around to the left are Field #11, Field #8, Field #3 and Field #1 (field numbers shown
on the map inside black diamonds and/or white circles).
For Wards Island: Follow the instructions above, but stay on the bus after the
first stop. Ask the driver to let you off at the stop nearest to the Wards Island ball
