Teams & Sponsors

The Big Apple Softball League currently consists of 38 teams divided into six divisions based on skill level and competitiveness. These divisions offer places for players of all skill levels to play softball in a friendly and fun environment.


DIMA DIVISION
EAGLE

The Eagle has been involved with first the MCAA and then the BASL since 1977. It has a long tradition of excellence in the league, determined year after year to compete in the upper division of the BASL. This year will be no different as this team, though inexperienced, will prove to be no pushover.

A New York classic, the Eagle continues its tradition of having the hottest men, great pool tables, an amazing roof-deck and, of course, serious cruising.


MAVERICKS

The Mavericks come into their fifth season looking to defend their first-place finishes in the past two years’ regular season standings in the Dima Division.

  PANDAS

New to the BASL in 2007, the Pandas earned the respect of their opponents in the Dima Division when they finished in second place in the division standings. In their 2008 sophomore season, the Pandas hope to one-up 2007’s performance and bid for the top spot.

WARRIORS

The team formerly known as the Stallions returns for another season as one of the Dima Division’s stalwarts.

STONEWALL DIVISION
BUDDIES

The team aspires to be competitive but cool and to do very well in 2008 and beyond, bringing the Buddies name back to national attention.

CELTICS

Entering their fifth season in the BASL, the 2007 Fitzpatrick Division playoff-champion Celtics are one of four teams elevated to a very competitive Stonewall Division in 2008.

CRUSADERS

Formerly known as the Cruisers, the team is now in its seventh season as a Stonewall team.

GRIDIRONS

Beginning their third year in the league, the Gridirons look forward their first season competing in the Stonewall Division.

ROYALS

After achieving a third-place finish in both the regular season and the playoffs in their debut season in the Fitzpatrick Division in the 2007, the Royals have moved up to the Stonewall Division. They are looking forward to another successful season, making new friends and the opportunity to prove that the Royals are a force to be reckoned with.

Anchoring Restaurant Row’s brimming sink of sudsy gay and lesbian bars and post-theater eateries, the nautical-themed Ritz Bar & Lounge keeps people afloat with a half-price happy hour and DJs spinning nearly every night of the week. This Hell’s Kitchen hot spot (boasting outdoor patios, summertime BBQs and guest DJs) was the winner of the 2007 HX Award for Best New Venue.


SUPER G

After yet another 20+ win season and a second division title, Super G takes another leap forward, this time to the Stonewall Division. Super G will continue promoting tolerance while building bridges, breaking down barriers with a continued emphasis on having fun, laughter and diversity. Super G is poised for its third straight division title.

TITANS

CHARGERS

The Dish returns this season with new manager, Joe D., and a new nickname: The Chargers. The team’s core players remain the same and, with the addition of several new, talented ballplayers, the Dish expects to be on top of the Fitzpatrick Division once again.

DEMONS

SAINTS

In 2008, the Saints plan on being more competitive while remaining a fun-loving team, both on and off the field. Last year was a year of injuries for the Saints but they are coming back healthy and hungry. Thanks to some key acquisitions, the Saints will be a formidable opponent for any team in the Fitzpatrick Division. Their continued sponsorship from Chiro Clinix, Posh and Philip Marie will enable them to dazzle the competition with their fantastic uniforms and flashy play on and off the field.

EMPIRES

AVENGERS

The Avengers return for a second year in the coed Sachs Division. The first year in the league was a successful entry for this fun-loving group. Determined to play for fun, with a large amount of spirit, the Avengers look forward to good times and fun play. Three UP... Three Down!! CHIX-W-STIX

COMETS

The Comets, formed in 2005, are back for another season of exciting softball and some friendly competition. Consisting of a diverse group of men and women, the original Comets look forward to showing its newbies how to have fun both on and off the field.

The gATORZ are back and raring to go for their third season. Fiercely competitive and determined to rise to the top, the 2008 team features several returning veteran players, along with dynamic fresh-meat rookies. LADY HEAT

This team was formed by a group of friends who just won the Betty’s Division championship in the New York Urban Professional Basketball League while playing as the Lady Realms. They love to compete, and welcome their new members.

UNLEASH THE BEAST
